Cole Clark Fat Lady II, natural finish, made in Australia 2012. Cole Clark launched in the early 2000s, armed with some innovative designs, one of the world's best pickup systems and the natural charm of Australian tonewoods. This particular example is a limited edition take on the Fat Lady II, with an ebony fretboard and bridge, snowflake abalone inlays and a gorgeous blackwood rope rosette around the soundhole...  not your average FL2. All of that bling embellishes the natural good looks of the streaky bunya top and blackwood back and sides, finished in thin satin nitro. This particular example spent it's first decade or so in the care of a particularly picky music store employee, so the original owner had the choice of dozens of Cole Clark guitars before settling on this one. It's a great sounding guitar. Australian Blackwood is a relative of Hawaiian Koa, with a similar tight and crisp attack and midrange focus that lends this a gorgeous clear articulate voice. The bunya top sits somewhere between the brightness of spruce and the warmth of cedar, and as well as sounding beautifully balanced, it's a very sustainable timber to use as it grows and matures far quicker than spruce or cedar. Cole Clark's signature pickup system allows you to blend a traditional piezo pickup under the saddle with an approximately foot long metal sensor built into bracing, which allows for an amazing level of accuracy plugged in. This later example of the system adds a small condenser mic into the mix too for added detail. It really is one of the best pickup/preamp systems in the world, the amped up sound is exceptionally natural. Buy it once and your gigs will sound better forever after.
