Cool Z ZST-1R Strat style, shell pink, made in Japan 2010. These are definitely a little 'under the radar' gem. There's a whole world of modern Japanese-made guitars that seldom escape Japan, but hey... we're here to help them find love in the wider world. Cool Z is a house brand for major Japanese instrument chain Shimamura, who have stores all over Japan. They're made at the legendary Fujigen Gakki plant, the very same factory that made all those famous Fender Japan guitars from 1982-96 as well as producing Ibanez Prestige and other tasty biscuits to this day. So, needless to say, this is a beautifully made instrument. This one is wearing a gorgeous coat of shell pink, which paired with the super dark rosewood board is just delicious. The neck is a moderate modern C style shape, similar to a Fender Japan ST62, but with a modern bend-friendly radius and an 'easy access' neck joint. It's super comfy and easy to get around on, it just feels right. The tone is very convincing indeed: thick, punchy and harmonically rich, balanaced by that chiming snap we all love from a Strat. It sounds amazing, I was very impressed. This is gloriously cute little thing, but it absolutely has the feel and tone to match... just like you, right?
