Ibanez PGM30 Paul Gilbert Model, purple, made in Japan 1999. Paul Gilbert made his name playing with 1980s rifflords Mr Big; his resume is long and impressive. He's also had a number of cool signature model guitars over the years, including this one. This was made at the famed Fujigen Gakki plant, the very same that made all those famous Fender Japan guitars and still makes Ibanez's Prestige line today. As such, it's impeccably built: the quartersawn maple neck is shaped to perfection with perfect fretwork and that certain 'magic' that comes from getting the right piece of wood, the finish is perfectly applied, the body is light and super resonant... it has a certain integrity to it, MIJ Ibanez aficionados will know what I mean. The purple finish and faux-f-holes makes for a pretty gaudy aesthetic, but hey, everyone has a boring black guitar, right? The tone on deck is classic Ibanez: smooth, big bottom end, nice definition... it just works. If you're after a shred machine that'll outperform guitars at 2-3 times the dime, Paul is your homeboy, yes?
