The  timelessly cool offset body shape is perfectly complemented by the always-awesome seafoam green finish, and to top it off, a matching headstock. This guitar looks absolutely stupendous, it just oozes 'cool'. It doesn't stop there though, it's got that big, thick round JM tone and is a little 'rounder' in tone than other examples of the model we've come across. The dual circuitry is simple once you work it out, and offers a wide range of tones and easy switching between smooth-and-thick to -bitey-and spanky. The neck is in great shape and is a pleasing medium profile, combined with the super-comfy body, you can play this all day. Also included is a great quality brand new gig-bag. This is a bit of a rare one! 'Medium scale' means 24.75 inches (or 314mm to 12th fret if you prefer, the same as a Les Paul), a little shorter than the standard 25.5\" for a Telecaster but not as short as a 24\" Jag or Mustang. The shorter scale gives the guitar a 'slinkier' feel; you can easily bend 1.5-2 full tones even with 11 gauge strings. It also takes a little bit of the edge off the traditional brightness you hear in a Tele, and while it still has that signature 'twang' and attack, the rounder tone is very pleasing to the ear and won't cut you head off. The slightly more 'compact' feel is very comfortable indeed, it really doesn't take much effort to play at all and is therefore quite hard to put down. The factory six saddle bridge is handy too, much easier to get the action and intonation right! The black finish and white guard 'tuxedo' combo is a classic, and with a few dings and a bit of play-wear, the guitar has a great 'legit relic' look. These models replaced the earlier Studio Lords and originally appeared in 1983, and seem to drop out of the catalogue after 1986. You get some nice appointments: mahogany body, one piece mahogany neck, vintage Gibson style tuners and a cheeky open-book style headstock. This one is definitely a 'legit relic' example; the finish has a whole heap of cosmetic wear, and you can see the undulations of the grain through the black finish in certain lights. The faded cream binding, switch and pickup surrounds look especially cool against the black. The nut has been recently replaced with a new bone nut by a top notch luthier, which is a nice addition. The humbuckers produce a big, full, warm, crunchy tone... it really does sounds terrific. The neck is slim and superbly comfortable, the guitar loves a big bend and is fast and easy to play. This is a no-nonsense rock machine! These 'special faded' guitars found considerable favour following their release, as the super thin nitro finish not only looks great and wears quickly to a cool natural relic, but also allows the mahogany body to breathe and resonate nicely, creating a tone that punches well above the price-point. This particular SG is in good nick, there's only minor wear here and there and a little glossing of the finish. The slim, quick neck is very comfortable, and better balanced with the light body than many SGs I've come across, you don't feel like it's constantly in need of being 'held up'. Plugged in, the 490R+T pickups produce a thick, warm, dark tone, with a little touch of bite when you dig in.
