Fender Japan Jazzmaster JM66-70 Candy Apple Red 1986-7

Sold out

Fender Jazzmaster, made in Japan 1986-7, candy apple red. This is really something quite special. The Jazzmaster first appeared in the Fender Japan catalog in 1986; on serial number, this one most likely dates to that fateful year. It's a joy in the hands; the neck is magical... check out the grain of the maple on the headstock and neck, it's really quite something. The wood selection and build quality on offer on these first few years of MIJ models is obscenely good. This is the first pre-1990 JM we've ever managed to score; they weren't making out of Japan at the time and they'd long discontinued USA production at that point. The finish is in pretty great shape; it has the cool slightly uneven fading that comes with 30+ years of play, but it's really quite remarkably preserved all around. The tone is pure: heaps of ping and sparkle, thick growly mids, rhythmic plonky attack... all the JM goodness, but with a certain open airiness that comes only with age. This is an exceptional guitar in every way, it absolutely oozes majesty.

Cosmetic condition notes: Neck and headstock pretty clean, just some dimples on the end of the headstock and near the serial number. The back has the start of a couple of checking lines, some minor buckle rash, a little dent in the shoulder area, and some uneven fading on the finish. The sides look great, just some  minor dimples near the jack. The front is also looking clean, the just a scratch near the edge up from the bridge and some normal play wear on the guard and top horn. Overall: very good condition (8/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some minor wear but look great and seem to be freshly dressed and polished, 8.5/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 11/49s.
