Fender have a long tradition of automotive-inspired paint jobs, and this briefly-made model was a reissue of the original Competition Mustangs from the early 1970s. It looks awesome: the chrome hardware, cream highlight and red are a killer combo, and the pearloid guard and matching headstock tie it all up perfectly. At a nudge over 3kg with a slim neck and small body, this is a super comfy little couch riff machine, or handy if you're playing the long sets. The tone is classic Mustang stuff: abundant attack, growly lows, percussive midrange punch and a naturally short sustain. It's been ages since we had one of these, so nab it while it's on offer.
