Kazuo Yairi initially trained in the Suzuki violin factory, before beginning his own operation making guitars in the 1960s. Classical guitars were his initial specialty, and the company still makes beautiful classical models completely by hand today. This one was made late last century, and it's a good example of Yairi's commitment to old-world craftsmanship. It's got a gorgeous solid cedar top and some striking striped rosewood for the back and sides, paired with an agreeable mahogany neck. It's lightweight and resonant, with a generous warm bass response, rich mids and a smooth, musical treble.
