Simon \u0026amp; Patrick was started by Robert Godin in Quebec, Canada, and named after his two sons. The brand kicked off in 1986, offering sturdy, great sounding vintage style flat top acoustics. This one is early in the piece: the serial number format puts it somewhere between 1986-8, as it's a six digit sequential affair until a fancier system kicked in around 1989. This is a classic spruce and mahogany dreadnought, boasting all solid construction and some very careful workmanship. The finish has faded and taken a few scuffs and knocks over the years, so this has a certain played-but-loved aesthetic to it. The tone is awesome: similar to a Martin D-18, but with a slightly shorter scale that warms things up a little and rounds out the lows and mids. It's a got a comfy slim neck with a slightly wider nut than many of it's cousins from south of the border. There's a lot to enjoy here, and I feel it represents a whole lot of charm for not many maplecoins.
