Cole Clark Fat Lady FL1AC Bunya/Maple Natural 2010
Cole Clark FL1AC, natural satin, made in Melbourne Australia 2010. Founded by former Maton luthiers Brad Clark and Adam Cole, Cole Clark burst onto the Australian scene with gusto in the early 2000s. By 2010 they were riding high on an endorsement from Jack Johnson, who was inescapably huge at the time, as well as a bunch of other notable international and local players. This no-nonsense beauty is a good example of their work from this era, and it's got the most important CC unique touches. The neck is carved from QLD maple and joined to the body using a classical-style Spanish-heel join, which makes for super stable tuning, heaps of sustain and and very solid feel. The electronics feature the proprietary 'face brace' sensor, adding a foot long metal transducer into the bracing to blend with the traditional piezo pickup: the face pickup adds depth and sustain, the piezo offers detail and brightness, and the overall sound is extremely accurate to the acoustic tone. The sound is classically Australian: dry and understated, with a chiming top end and an a nice balanced midrange that works perfectly with vocals. There's a reason these popped up everywhere in a rush: it's a super sturdy working player's guitar that's ready for another couple of decades of singing for it's supper.
