Aria LS-450, black, made in Japan 1980. This is a great little LP, it punches so hard. Aria Pro II have a long and storied history; many of their earlier guitars like this were made at the famed Matsumoku plant that produced famous 'lawsuit' models by Ibanez and Yamaha. This is a pretty straight up copy of a Les Paul Standard; it's simple but beautifully executed and made by hand. The neck is slim and quick, it's straight and stable and generally an agreeable sort. There's plenty of unplugged volume (always a good sign) and the body seems to be the desirable combo of both unchambered but still light in weight. Plugged in, I was seriously impressed: this has heaps of chime and sparkle, balanced by a whole heap of punchy attack and a creamy, rich bass. It loves a bit of crunch, but cleans up remarkably well too. These still fly a little under the radar and can be picked up for a relative bargain, so nab yourself a saucy black Standard and strum some joy into the world.
