Yamaha SGV300, gloss yellow, made in Taiwan 2000. It's been a while, but I'm very pleased to have a Flying Samurai back in the shop. This one is one of the Taiwan-made reissues from the early 00s, which are always really nicely put together and benefit from some improved modern hardware and electronics. It's a great player: the neck is slim, straight and comfy, the body is lightweight, it's well balanced and surprisingly ergonomic... it's just fun in the hands. The clever blend control allows the pickups to behave like three single coils or a pair of humbuckers, so there's heaps of options on offer. The tone is somewhere between the punchy, plucky chime of a Mustang and the growly shimmering voice of a Tele Deluxe. The bright yellow finish is sure to inject some welcome sunshine into your wintery existence... hit me with that warm baked custardy goodness.
