Tech 21 SansAmp Original Amp Simulator Pedal

This is the Original version, not to be confused with the also-great Classic reissue from a few years later. The SansAmp was developed by NYC based guitar player and electronics engineer Andrew Barta, who was initially just trying to solve his own recording qualms by removing some of the bulk and time in moving tube amps around. The guts are all analog, using FETs instead of tubes to deliver a remarkably touch-sensitive, real amp feel. The dip switches were apparently originally going to go, once Barta found the 'right' setting, but he was encouraged to keep them in the design by Foreigner's Mick Jones who helped him test the pedal. These turned up on stage and in studio with a tonne of notable pros: Les Paul, Madonna, KISS, Lou Reed, Jeff Beck... the list goes on and on.
