Ibanez 2030 Bass Sunburst 1971
Ibanez 2030 Bass, sunburst, made in Japan circa 1971. This is a funky duck. Ibanez dates back as far as 1908. as a musical instrument division of a Japanese bookstore, but they only started making electric instruments in the early 1960s. This quirky beasty was made around 1971 at the excellent Matsumoku factory. It's been de-badged, but if you dig around for the Ibanez 1971 catalog, you'll find this in there. There are some Ibanez-branded examples kicking around the internet with this 'tick' shaped headstock too, as well as the more common examples with the 4-in-line more trad style head. As is often the case with these old 70s-era Japan basses, the pickups are great. They're a big fat single coil, with a lovely girthy midrange, plump lows and an understated sweet top end. This has been recently serviced and setup by our local pro luthier Paul Mineur, so it's playing smoothly and all the notes are in good order. Obviously this won't play with all the mm-perfect clarity of a modern instrument, but it most certainly has charm in abundance.
