Our thoughts:
Many moons ago, a young virtuoso by the name of Christopher Edward Funklawd found himself in locked away in his percussion dungeon on a dark stormy night. Science and invention was in the air and as he rambled behind his tubs and with a stroke of mad genius something hot and fresh was born. However, his invention was too much and the establishment collapsed, sealing him inside. It wasn't until years later that his invention was uncovered and shown to the world.
Ok, maybe it didn't go quite like that but, the Zildjian K/Z hi-hat combination is a stroke of mad genius. With a medium weight hi-hat from the K line placed above a Z Dyno Beat which is, for the the record, a 'meaty boi', these hats boast a hefty amount of articulation and definition without being overly bright. They have a moderate sustain with truckloads of projection.
The Verdict: We have a love/hate relationship with these. Although they're not practical for every setting, it is a lot of fun to hear so much of every closed articulation. You'll hear a lot of stick, which for rudiment-focused players is a good thing and if your gig life is conducive to 'back-beating' for hours, these might be right up your alley!
