Bacchus Craft Series BJB-64V, vintage white, made in Nagano, Japan around 1998. Bacchus guitars enjoy a stellar reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, excellent materials and amazing feel, and this one is no different. It's an earlier example dating to the late 90s and these more 'vintage correct' style basses are discontinued these days. The style borrows from the 1964 Fender Jazz, so you get the classic curves on a two piece alder, an elegant rosewood slab board, vintage style reverse cloud tuners and a spiral saddle bridge. Bacchus are known for making their own pickups so this has a pair of their own J-Special single coils, spaced pretty close to 70s style for a bit of extra grunt and honk. The tone is great: thick and creamy mids with heaps of attack and presence and a plonky, defined low end. The neck pickup gets pretty close to a juicy fat P tone, while the bridge pickup loves a dash of overdrive and has plenty of definition and snap. The neck is a highlight: these early Bacchus basses are well known for picky wood selection, so the piece of maple is an absolute stunner, and it's carved to a perfect vintage C that feels 'just right'. The copper finish is topped with nitro clear coat, hence some checking lines here and there and the plentiful minor marks and yellowing. It's a non-catalog colour and definitely has an understated glamour it.... so cool. We love these BJB models, and you will too!
