Bacchus BJM-Modern, blonde finish, made in Japan 2019. What a stunning creature this is! We love Bacchus guitars around here, they're some of the best production instruments in the world. The brand launched in the 1990s under the direction of master luthier Yasuo Momose, who trained all the luthiers in their workshop and championed a slower, more traditional truly handmade approach to building instruments. This is a recent model and a fun take on the Jazzmaster genre. It's got some classic JM appointments: offset body, full 25.5" scale neck, the big vibrato... but it's also got some modern updates: a roller bridge, simple switching, and a set of cool alnico 'staple' pickups. The pickups are great: bright and open, clear as daylight, super responsive under a light touch but with a whisker extra midrange heft when played hard. The tone sits somewhere between the airy sweetness of a vintage Jazzmaster and the more assertive glassy twang of a Tele, it's terrific. The quality of wood, build and finish is always outstanding with Bacchus, so this gets all the goos stuff: a lightweight, highly figured ash body and an arrow-straight slick satin finished maple neck, sturdy sensible hardware, frets and joins that are beyond millimetre perfect and a gorgeous thin blonde finish. The matching headstock and gold guard round out the look perfectly, it's stunning in the flesh. It took me all of ten seconds to decide I loved this one, and I'd wager you'll be the same once it's in your hands.
