Bacchus Handmade Twenty Four Limited, natural satin oil, made in Japan 2006. Bacchus make gorgeous basses, their Woodline series is a huge favourite in the shop and we've moved quite a few of them. This, however, is pretty unusual and a bit special: it's a limited run model, one of just thirty made totally by hand in 2006. The Twenty Four was a catalog model, but it didn't get the flash wooden pickup covers or the outrageous solid flame maple cap. The quality of the wood and workmanship here is stellar: this is truly a boutique quality instrument. The flame maple cap is unreal, it brims with detail and depth and looks beautiful from every angle. The neck, you might have guessed, have twenty four frets. It's a super solid three-piece maple build, so it's arrow straight and feels fantastic in the hand. The pickups are humbuckers, splittable to single coils and helped along by a powerful active pre-amp, so you can pull all sorts of tones out of the thing. The natural resonance lends every note a rich fullness and fast attack, so you can sculpt that into a warm rounded vintage style tone or a snappy modern pang more akin to a Warwick or Xotic. The cute little printed paper under the guard is easily removable if you please, but it's a nice little touch and adds some pop to the already slick look. This will outplay instruments at double the price or more, it's seriously good. I give it twenty four stars.
