Barclay 5004 Jag style with Lucite body, made in Japan mid 1990s, clear. This is just so cool, that's abundantly clear... chortle. These popped up in the mids 90s, it's likely they were made under the same roof as Aria Pro II at the time as the Aria branded JG-2H is a very similar beast. It's a Lucite body, also called plexiglass or acrylic, styled after a Jag or Jazzmaster. This particular example has the cool matching headstock, whereas some others had a maple headstock, plus it's also a hardtail bridge, whereas other examples we've had through the shop had a Strat-style trem. At 4.7kg it's heavy, but no worse than a normal Les Paul or a seventies Strat. The neck is a moderately slim, round shape with a modern 12" radius board and tall-ish frets, so it's easy to play quickly and accurately on. The Lucite body offers a big natural bass response, so the bridge pickup especially is a dream. It's thick, punchy and full, adding a massive weight and conviction to rhythm parts. The neck pickup comes off sounding pretty dark, but leaning into that sound with the tone rolled back and the gain cranked, I really enjoyed playing some legato leads and juicy chords. This plays and sounds really good, it's not all just for show. But heck... it is worth buying just for show though, right?
