Burny Super Grade RLG70, honeyburst finish, made in Japan circa 1991. Burny is an arm of Japanese guitar behemoths Fernandes, largely offering Gibson-style models. The original 80s era Super Grade series enjoys a fabulous reputation for build quality. With this in your hands, it's easy to see why: the wood selection and workmanship is outstanding, the frets and finish are bang-on and it really feels alive in the hands. The neck is a slim sixties style profile, still arrow-straight and stable after all these years, and blessed with a midnight-dark piece of rosewood on the board. The body is lightweight and eagerly responds to the lightest touch. Having a look in the pickup cavities revealed the maple cap to be around 12mm thick... dang, they weren't messing around. The tone on offer is a bright, touch-sensitive and complex take on the vintage LP growl. The neck pickup is sweet and clear, while the bridge pickup is rich and creamy. It's great with a dirty amp, but it cleans up remarkably well, which is always a good sign. This is a very convincing guitar in the hands, and that honeyburst finish is a sweet treat for the eyeballs too.
