Cole Clark FL2AC, natural satin, made in Australia 2007. This is a cool early example of the iconic Fat Lady series, one of Australia's most successful guitar offerings. There's a couple of unusual ideas in the design: a Spanish heel neck joint, a unique dual-source  pickup/preamp system and Australian tonewoods. The Spanish heel joint means the neck block goes way further into the body, which makes for excellent stability and extended sustain. You trade a little bit of attack for a singing sustain and bulletproof tuning stability, so it's a perfect companion for those long solo gigs. This one has a high grade solid sitka spruce top, which is looking lovely under the naturally aged finish with plenty of tight little details in the grain. The back and sides are Queensland maple, a fast growing tonewood more closely related to mahogany than rock or sugar maple. It's a lightweight, strong wood with excellent bass response, so you get a slightly scooped tone with a chiming, sweet treble paired with a sonorous, expansive low end. The pickup system uses a traditional piezo balanced with a 'face brace' sensor, which is almost a foot long and built into the bracing of the top. The two mixed together creates a remarkably accurate reproduction of the acoustic sound, it's very convincing indeed. Folks that buy these tend to hold onto them, so they don't come up used all that often, and as is generally the case with all-solid acoustics, this one has opened up a lot over the years and sounds richer and more complex than a brand new example. What's the saying again? Hell hath no fury til the Fat Lady sings?
