Cool Z ZLJ-10 Les Paul Special style, TV yellow finish, made in Japan 2012. What a tasty treat! Cool Z is a house brand for major Japanese instrument chain Shimamura, who have stores all over Japan. They're made at the legendary Fujigen Gakki plant, the very same factory that made all those famous Fender Japan guitars from 1982-96, the famed Epiphone Japan models from the mid 2000s as well as producing Ibanez Prestige and high class goods to this day. This model references the Gibson Les Paul Special, so it's got a solid mahogany body and neck, a flat top, a pair of soapbar style single coils and attitude to burn. The neck is a moderate round 60s style shape, it's comfy and agreeable and has that certain integrity in the hands only the better USA-made examples manage. Plug it in, and the party is on: percussive snap, punchy immediate lows, shimmering highs, creamy mids with a great balance of girth and air. It's perfect for punk or classic rock stuff, but you could cover all sorts of ground with it. The yellow finish lets a bit of the tight detailed grain peep through and has a few knocks around the edge to keep it honest; the thing looks poised and powerful. Cool as Z'ell.
