Duesenberg Starplayer DJP-SP Surf Green 2002

Duesenberg DJP-SP Starplayer, surf green, made in Germany around 2002. This model was made briefly for Japan market only in an attempt to capitalise on the success of Japan's high profile Starplayer-slinger, Ringo Sheena. Some of the 'bling' from the flagship Starplayer TV is missing, as this was designed as a reasonably-priced entrant into a crowded market. The appointments are nice: Duesenberg humbuckers, Kluson tuners, D-branded Bigsby style trem... all on a tasty semi-hollow mahogany body. Being a mahogany body, there's a darker edge to the tone than some other Duesenberg models, but it's still got that hi-fi 'ping' and clarity that's endeared these to their loyal fans; it's kind of like a halfway point between a Jazzmaster and an ES335. The trademark build quality and classy feel is all there, this feels lively and reassuring in the hands. The surf green finish looks superb, it's got a few marks around the edges from play but radiates charm and swagger. If you're looking to join the Dues-club without dropping dropping $4k, this is an awesome little ticket to ride.

The back has a little dent near the neck joint, a couple of dents near the jack and widespread light scuffs and minor dimples around the body. The sides have a few small dents in the top horn and near the jack, as well as some dimples in the elbow area. The front has some scuffs near the controls and some play wear on the guard and horns.  Overall: very good condition (7.5/10).
