Edwards E-Buzz Bass, trans red, made in Japan 2007. This beauty is a signature model for J-rock royalty Tetsuya, who plays with L'Arc-en-Ciel. They sold 40m records and sold out Madison Square Garden, so it's fair to say they were a big deal, and oh boy, they know a bit about cool gear. Edwards, for the uninitiated, is the vintage-style division of ESP Guitars, so they're made to an exceptional standard in Japan and generally reference classic shapes by Gibson and Fender. This is in the Jazz Bass genre, but with a modern board with a fairly flat radius, an easy-access neck joint and a fancy quilted maple top. You also get a high mass bridge and a set of lightweight tuners, so it's very nicely appointed. The passive single coils are paired with an active preamp with a two band EQ, so you can dial in all sorts of tones. You're starting from a good base: heaps of sparkle and clarity and a punchy, grinding midrange. The neck is made from some gorgeous tightly grained maple and feels classy in the hands, the quality of workmanship is obvious. The matching headstock and fancy top make for a classic-with-a-twist aesthetic that'll surely spice up your stage life, it's a very cool look. Those who know Edwards stuff love it, so join the club and fall in love!

The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, just some wear on the edge of the board and some minor dimples and marks on the back. The back has a decent chip on the bottom edge near the cavity cover, a mark near the neck joint and some light scuffs and dimples around the body. The sides have a few little marks in the elbow area and on the bottom horn. The front is pretty tidy, just some minor scuffs around the body and play wear on the guard and horns. Overall: good condition (7/10).
