Edwards E-LP-85C LP Custom style, made in Japan around 1999, gloss black. Edwards is a division of ESP Guitars, these days they largely offer Fender and Gibson style models to the domestic Japan market. Earlier on in their history, they were mostly doing production model versions of artist signature guitars by ESP. This little wonder dates to the the very late 90s when they had a foot in each camp: most Edwards guitars with this logo on the headstock were signature models, but this one is one of their earliest LP Custom style models. It's frightfully good, it feels and sounds amazing. The neck is a moderate 1960 style round shape, straight and stable with excellent frets and perfect binding and finish work; it feels intuitive and sturdy in the hands. The body seems to be unchambered but weighs in at a moderate 4.1kg, and again, it just feels natural and reassuring in the hands. The ESP pickups deliver some classic LPC goodness: the neck is gooey and warm with a huge tuneful low end, while the bridge pickup is growly and rich with a great balance of snappy attack and creamy complexity. The gold hardware and seven ply binding make the black finish and classic curves pop perfectly... all class.
