Music Man Stingray 5, black, made in USA 2006. In my mind, there's really only a couple of 5-string basses that make any sense, and top of the list: the Music Man Stingray 5. This is a great sounding bass: heaps of growl and punch through the mids, fat and tight low end with heaps of definition, and that slicing treble that'll pull you forward in a mix to get the place jumping. It's also nice and light, which is certainly not a given with an ash body Stingray. The neck is nicely played in and a friendly shape; the balance between string spacing and width is bang-on. Someone added a black pearl guard at some point, which apparently required cutting a second switch slot, but it's a cool look for sure. This is a perfect do-it-all working bass; it'll always sound terrific and always look supremely classy. Five thumbs up.
