Fender '52 Telecaster Special, butterscotch, made in Japan 1986/7. This model was part of Fender Japan's 'Collectors Series', which included other Tele variants like the famed all-rosewood Tele, an Esquire type model and a the paisley Teles. It's a very 'Keith Richards' type of setup; classic '52 blackguard T but with a humbucker in the neck. The original Fender Dragster pickup has been replaced with an unidentified Seymour Duncan zebra humbucker (no routing required), but aside from that, it's basically all stock. The factory-fitted deluxe brass six-saddle bridge is a great addition; it's very easy to adjust and adds a heap of sustain and attack as well as looking great. The neck features some sweet flamed maple and is a comfortable mild-U shape; the slightly chunkier of the typical 50s profiles. There's a bit of weight to the ash body, but it lends the tone a lot of grunt, and the pretty grain is peaking out behind the nicely-aged butterscotch finish. The tone is awesome: the neck pickup doles out a thick, warm, bold and defined voice that's equally happy as a thick clean or creamy dirty, and the bridge pickup offers that perfect Tele-twang that's won so many hearts over the years. 1980s made Fender Japan Teles, especially rarer high-end models like this, are becoming increasingly collectable... grab yourself a new best-bud.

Model: Fender Collector's Series Telecaster Special TL52-70SPL
Made: Japan, 1986-7 (serial E971699)
Finish: butterscotch blonde, 1-ply black guard
Body: white ash
Neck: maple, maple board, mild U profile
Mods: neck pickup replaced, strap pins replaced.
Weight: 3.76kg
Pickups: Fender Japan TL Vintage Single (bridge) and unknown Seymour Duncan HB, moderate output (neck)
Case: vintage faux-leather gig bag

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. There's some minor dimples on the front and back of the body, the back has the very beginning of some checking lines, the guard has some play-wera, the brass bridge has some discolouration. Really nothing major at all. Overall: very good condition (8/10).

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. The frets are in good shape, there's minor wear only and they're freshly polished, 7.5/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 10/46s and good to go.
