Fender Japan '62 Precision Bass, walnut finish, 1991. Here's a model to get the Fender Japan nerds among us excited: PB62-115WAL. The '62' means 1962 reissue, the '115' pertains to the ¥115000 original retail price in 1991, more than double the cost of the standard '62 P model. The 'WAL' is short for 'walnut'... the original limited edition version of this model was made of walnut. Once those were done, Fender Japan offered the model by special order only with an alder body and a maple neck, stained head to foot with a rich walnut colour and finished in satin nitro, like our delightful friend here. The walnut finish, paired with some gold hardware and a rich dark-choc rosewood board, make for a very exotic, dark handsome P indeed. The thin finish allows the body to vibrate enthusiastically with every note, you can really feel the resonance in your hands. The satin also lends the neck a silky smoothness, it's amazingly easy to move around on and feels great. The Fender USA pickups offers a little extra brightness and definition than a standard MIJ pickup, contributing to the brilliant tone: thick, tight lows, rich warm mids, clear, rounded treble. These are supremely rare, this is the first example we've ever had through the store. Pure posh Precision perfection.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. There's a small ding on the headstock and a couple of spots of discolouration on the top edge of the fretboard. The back has some light and shallow buckle rash, mostly along the edge of the shoulder carve. The front is fairly clean, just a couple of nicks on the top horn and above the bridge. There's some scuffs and marks on the bottom edge from the strap pin to the knobs area. There's some clouding on the gold hardware. Overall: very good condition (8/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. The machine heads are a little stiff, most notably the A-string, but they all work. Frets look good, minor wear only, 8/10 for life left. Set up with fresh 45/105s.
