Fender Japan '72 Reissue Telecaster, modded and refinished to satin blue, 1987/8. Originally, this would've been quite a classic looking Tele; two single coils, natural finish (not 100% sure on that!), a black guard and a tasty maple board. It hails from the very sought-after 80s period; so it has that 'thing' that so many of this ear of Fender Japan guitars have: it's magic in the hands; the neck is brilliant. Obviously it's had some modifications! The new finish is a thin, satin grey/blue, sitting somewhere between daphne blue and navy and resembling the hue of a pair of blue jeans. Being a thin finish, it should wear in pretty quickly with some proper play; so it should gloss up and fade pretty quickly... just like your favourite jeans. The guard and pickups have been replaced; it's now wearing an HS set of Gotohs. They balance brilliantly with each other in terms of both output and tone. The neck is glassy, thick, warm and full, contrasting against the chiming, clear, crispy bridge pickup. It's easy to dial in a sweet tone, and it's an absolute pleasure to play. If you're after a Keith-ish Tele with a unique look, this certainly has an alluring charm.
Model: Fender '72 Reissue Telecaster (TL72-55)
Made: Japan, 1987/8, Fujigen plant (serial G027327)
Finish: refinished in satin blue/grey, best guess was originally natural; seems like a pro job
Body: sen ash
Neck: maple, maple board, slim oval profile
Weight: 3.7kg approx
Mods: refinished, guard replaced, pickups replaced, routed for H/S combo, one knob replaced
Pickups: Gotoh HB-Classic alnico humbucker (neck), Gotoh TL-Classic-B alnico single coil (bridge) (note: original bridge pickup included).
Case: basic gig bag
Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The new finish is quite recent, so the body is in good shape. There's a nick near the rear strap pin and around from the knob, as well as some minor scratching on the back and top horn on the front. The bridge plate has some minor rust (all working fine) and there's clouding on the chrome. The neck has a bit of play-wear, it's golden brown and there's some minor lacquer wear on the low-E side from the 4th-9th frets. Overall: good condition (7.5/10).
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. The frets are in good shape and look recently dressed, 8/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 10/46s; nice!
