Fender AVRI '63 P, sonic blue, made in USA 2012. What a sublime little slice of sunshine this is. The American Vintage series was made from 1982-2017, enjoying an excellent reputation for quality from go to woe over all those decades. This example dates to late 2012. which was around the time of a reboot of the series, so it got the couple of updates: 60s-correct radius laminate fretboard, clay dot fretboard markers and an updated 'thin skin' nitro finish. Now, that finish: wowsers. It left the factory as blue, but as these thin nitro jobs do, it's yellowed significantly to a more mint green colour. The guard was mint green originally, so now the body and guard almost match in hue, and it looks fantastic. This one arrived without the original pickup, so our tech has installed an American Standard pickup from 2007 we had on hand, which sounds great. It's a little more punchy through the mids with a quicker attack than the original; a whisker more modern without being totally different. It's a great sound: warm, round, full, punchy, very responsive to changes in your attack... it will sit on the bottom end of just about any mix perfectly. The neck is pretty fat: it's a C shape, but fairly wide with plenty of meat in the back, which makes for self-assured feel that rewards a steady, deliberate playing approach. I really enjoy this one, it really nails the genre in my opinion.
