Fender '57 Precision Bass, black, made in Japan 1989. It's classy, right? You really can't go too wrong with a P in a tuxedo, and when you pair that classic monochrome finish with toasty golden aged maple board... what a time to be alive. These early E-serial Fender Japan instruments were made at the same factory by the same luthiers as the famed JV-serial guitars that went down in history as some of the finest Fenders ever made, and you can absolutely feel the love that went into this one in your hands. It's super light, acoustically loud and resonant, excellent frets and fit and finish... it just adds up to more than the sum of it's parts. Plugged in, you get a strong dose of healthy P-punch: heaps of attack and a warm, growly midrange with a fattened, round low end. The maple board adds a little bit of grind and snap to the top end, so this is perfect for punk and funk etc where you really want your notes to come out cleanly in a mix. It just works really well, and looks great doing it. You can't ask for more than that, can you?
