Fender Japan VSP/DMC Jazz Bass, sunburst, crafted in Japan 2006-8. There's a few letters in the model name of this one, and they pertain to some exciting stuff. First: VSP stands for 'Vintage Special Project'; these were Fender Japan's top of the line, super vintage-correct high end instruments of the late 2000s. You get a super thin nitro top coat finish, USA made CTS pots and cloth wire, fancy reverse tuners and a super classy two piece high grade alder body. All that adds up to an amazing feel: this absolutely pops in the hands, it feels superb. The body is very resonant and the neck a dream. The 'DMC' stands for Dimarzio Collection; a collaboration between Fender and Dimarzio to make some tasty pickups in Japan just for this line. These are moderately hot, a little scooped, low on noise and extremely responsive... tasty stuff, not dissimilar from the Duncan Qtr Pound pickup many are familiar with. As you'd expect, that adds up to a mammoth tone; equal parts defined and fat, crisp and punchy. This will embarrass some pretty expensive USA made basses, it absolutely jams. These don't come around often as they were only made for a year or two, so don't let it pass you by if you're in the mood!
