Fender '62 P Bass, dakota red with matching matching headstock, crafted in Japan 1997-00. You really don't see many Precisions with matching headstocks, it's a refreshing look that adds a certain vintage race-car cool to the aesthetic. Also unusual is the dakota red finish, which is far scarcer than the and ubiquitous metallic candy apple red or the brighter, more orange fiesta red. This really does look great, it's a superb twist on the classic genre. Aside from being gorgeous, this has a lot going for it. It's in superb shape for 20-ish years old, and it plays with absolute ease. The body is light in weight and loud unplugged and the neck has the sensible and appealing moderate, round classic 60s profile. It's got that iconic-P thump; heaps of rounded, warm bass with a growling midrange and a twist of snap to the treble... perfectly simple and the obvious answer in so many different settings. If you like it, don't wait for the next one, it might be a long time before another one shows up!
