Fender '62 Strat, refinished in ice blue metallic, made in Japan 1986. Nice colour, right? This one started life wearing black, but the previous owner organised a pro refinish in ice blue metallic with a clear nitro topcoat. It's a tidy job, with a slightly cloudy clear top adding a bit of mystery to the look. The neck is a highlight: the maple has a tight, consistent grain with some beautiful detail on show, and the rosewood is dark, rich and streaky... dang, that's nice. It's carved to a fairly slim vintage C and feels like how ice cream tastes. The pickups were swapped out for a set of Van Zandt vintage style singles, which are remarkably clear and open. It's a very chimey and defined take on the classic Strat spank, perfect for funk or surf style stuff. If you're drowning the signal in dirt and effects, the added clarity will make sure the notes are still coming through too. These 1980s era Japan Strats are getting harder and harder to source, so nab yourself a cool little cucumber while it's looking for love.
