Fender VSP '62 Telecaster, sunburst, made in Japan 2014. This, friends, is proper. The 'Vintage Special Project' models were made for a few years from 2010; they were the absolute 'cream of the crop' from Fender Japan at the time and sold for around double the price of an equivalent regular model. VSP guitars were blessed with some mighty fine specs: premium two piece alder body, nitro finish, fancy alnico custom pickups, CTS pots and vintage cloth wiring and in this case, an absolutely stunning Madagascar rosewood slab fretboard. The board is luxurious: it's a rich red hue with striking dark chocolate streaks and feels equally gorgeous under the fingers. The super thin gloss nitro finish shows off the subtle grain of the two piece book-matched alder body; it's a classic and classy look that's accented nicely by the ivory coloured double binding. The slim, round neck is a fast friend and feels instantly familiar; contributing to the overall addictively easy and luminously lively feel. The true magic is in the tone: 100% all class, all the time. There's a brilliant shimmer and sparkle to the treble, balanced by a rich and complex midrange and a tight, rhythmic bass. Each switch position yields a fresh delight, but the middle position is especially wondrous. This is really not far off USA Custom Shop quality in terms of feel, tone and finish quality; it's an extremely saucy item. VSP FTW!
