Fender TL72-55 Telecaster, two tone sunburst, made in Japan 1987-9. This is a cool Tele. First up, it bears the fun 'ORDER MADE' stamp in the neck pocket, which means it was likely made as a little special order run for a particular store. The catalog shows this model on offer in natural, blonde, white or black, so the fifties style two-tone sunburst is a fun little rarity. It looks awesome over the sen ash body: those wide, definite grain lines pop beautifully under the rich yellow stain, with the burst adding a bit of classy mystique. The neck is a slim U shape, carved from some great maple and generously played in; it's feeling fantastic. Plug it in, and there's plenty to enjoy: the neck pickup is smooth and vocal-like with an understated depth, while the bridge pickup is wide and warm with plenty of midrange kick. That middle position is perfect for all those meandering Jeff Buckley chord progressions... it sounds lovely. This one scrubbed up a real treat, so hey: Tele yourself?
