Fender Aerodyne Jazz, matte black, crafted in Japan 2004-5. These are a cult favourite among many players, as they're such an effective gigging bass. You get a lightweight body, slim and comfy neck with a slick satin finish and a versatile P/J pickup setup... it just makes a lot of sense in the hands. Tonally, this takes the classic P and J tones and adds a little extra bass and a little extra treble, so it's got a certain modern 'thump' and click to it that adds some punch and definition to a mix. These are pretty common in gloss black or grey, but in this matte black finish... well, you don't see many around. It's a terrific look, unnervingly sleek; halfway between a shark and the Batmobile. These matte finishes tend to show history a little more readily than a thick coat of gloss poly, so there's a few marks to remind you the story goes back a little way. No one can argue with this: this is definitely a cool bass.
