Fender Japan Hybrid 50s Strat, sherwood green, 2019. Really, I needn't say more, but here goes. Sherwood green is one of those finishes I get asked for all the time, but save for a few Custom Shop models, you never see around. Fender Japan did a limited run of sherwood guitars and basses in 2019, and this was amongst them. It's almost brand new in condition; a handful of minuscule marks differentiate it from a brand new item. Needless to say, the finish is superb and looks absolutely stunning. The Hybrid 50s model borrows some elements from 50s Strats: a fat D-shape maple neck with a maple board, a single ply guard, the 'spaghetti' logo, trad wiring and vintage voiced pickups. It also throws a bit of 21st century in there: 9.5" flat-ish fingerboard radius and smooth two point trem. That adds up nicely in the hands; it feels great. There's plenty of spank and sparkle in the tone, balanced by a certain fatness and heft to the attack. Every guitar should be this finish, right?
