(ARCHIVE) Fender Japan Jazzmaster JM66-70 Candy Apple Red 1987

Fender Jazzmaster, made in Japan 1987-8, candy apple red. This is really something quite special. The Jazzmaster first appeared in the Fender Japan catalog in 1986, but given the grunge thing hadn't yet hit, they made very few of them. There was no USA-made production model at the time either, so if you want an 80s Jazzmaster, well... these are the only option, if you can find one. Luckily, it rules. The neck is magical... check out the grain of the maple on the headstock and neck, it's really quite something. The wood selection and build quality on offer on these first few years of MIJ models is obscenely good. The finish is in pretty great shape; it has the cool slightly uneven fading that comes with 30+ years of play, but it's really quite nicely preserved all around. The tone is pure: heaps of ping and sparkle, thick growly mids, rhythmic plonky attack... all the JM goodness, but with a certain open airiness that comes only with age. This is an exceptional guitar in every way, it absolutely oozes majesty.
