Fender Jazzmaster, surf green, crafted in Japan 1997-00. No-one wants Jazzmasters these days, especially in these rad 60s custom colours like surf green... just kidding, this one is sure to be hot property! These CIJ era offsets are beautifully made and this is no exception, it feels awesome in the hands. The neck is slim and a comfy round sixties style profile, it's in superb shape for the age and features some beautiful grain in the maple and a lux dark choc rosewood board. The body is perfectly weighted and sprightly in response, it's a real pleasure to play. The tone is lots of fun too: heaps of snap and definition in the top end, partnered with a fat and thumpy low end and a talkative, open midrange. Jazzys always get along well with buckets of ambient effects and saturated gains, so stack it with pedals and blast off into a new universe. Now, let’s talk about the finish. In the late 90s, this model came in sunburst, white or candy apple red. This factory surf green example looks gorgeous, it’s faded and mellowed to an absolutely stunning hue and looks completely and utterly dope. It would have been made as a part of a limited run of non-catalog examples, often ordered for a particular store from the factory. As such, examples like this are significantly less common than a run of the mill sunburst JM66, so while the premium finish attracts a few extra dollars on the used market a couple of decades later, it’s surely worth every dime. The future is green!
