Fender Japan Standard Jazz Bass, black, crafted in Japan 1997-00. These J-Craft Standard models are simple and effective basses. The basic recipe is to take the classic '62 style Jazz, add a satin finish to the neck and some 90s era decals and a practical single slot bridge and you're away. The results are good: the neck is super smooth and sweet in the hands, the body is light and loud unplugged and you really feel each note you play ringing against your chest. Plugged in, this has a classic bit of JB-grind mixed with an assured, tuneful low end that sits just right. The black finish has a few little marks including some unusual little bubbles in the finish, but that kinda adds to the vibe of a cool 20+ year old gig machine. This one has just been fully fret dressed and setup by out local luthier, so it's playing extra slick. All up: it goes about it's business as a quiet achiever and will have you enjoying yourself instantly.
