Fender Japan Standard Precision, vintage white, made 1998. These J-Standard basses are so great, I'm a big fan. It's similar to the classic '62 reissue models, but with a satin finish neck, 90s era decals and a single ply guard. This one has been blessed with new pots, capacitor and wiring, which adds a little extra clarity and zing to the tone and makes for a robust gig machine. The tone on deck is warm, wooly and fat, with heaps of kick in the attack and a lovely rounded fundamental note. The white finish has seen a few things in it's time, but I feel that to be an advantage in the case of vintage white: a few knocks saves it from taking itself too seriously. Simple, effective.
