Fender Japan J-Craft Standard Strat, ocean turquoise metallic, crafted in Japan 1999-02. Some finishes seem to get better and better with age; this has got to be the best example of faded 'OTM' we've seen so far. The non-catalog factory finish has yellowed naturally with age to a sweet sage green type colour, it's absolutely stunning. These J-Craft Standard Strats are the Japanese domestic market equivalent to the American Standard. They're not a strict vintage reissue, so they come in either maple or rosewood board and have a sweet smooth satin finish neck and the 90s style decals as well as a modern 9.5" radius. It's a smooth and agreeable player: light, resonant and very easy to move up and down the neck on; perfect for slinky blues riffs. The classic Strat-spank is all there; this has a nice defined attack with a clear, precise treble and a nice controlled bass. Here's a Strat dripping with coastal-cool!
Model: Fender Japan J-Craft Standard Stratocaster (ST-43)
Made: Japan, Tokai plant, 1999-02 (serial P004255)
Finish: ocean turquoise metallic (OTM)
Body: basswood (approx total weight 3.6kg)
Neck: maple with rosewood board, dot inlays, satin finish
Mods: tone knobs replaced
Pickup: original Fender Japan ST-Current single coils
Case: very basic gig bag
Cosmetic condition notes: mild finish wear. The OTM finish has yellowed naturally with age. There's a few chips in the finish revealing the wood below, the largest is on the edge of the bottom horn and is approx 1 x 3cm. There's some other little ones: on the top horn, a couple on the side around from the knobs and jack, near the trem cavity, in the body-carve area; none are especially nasty. There's a dent on the frot near the rear strap pin and some normal play scratches on and above the guard, as well as some light buckle rash on the back. There's some discolouration on the chrome and plastics, but everything works fine. Overall: good condition (7/10)
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets are looking pretty good, they're fairly even with good height and recently polished; 8/10 for life left. Set up with fresh 10/46s.
This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
