Fender '62 Jazz, relic sunburst, made in Japan 1994-6. This is a very cool looking bass, it's hard to deny that. This started life as the high end version of the '62 jazz, so you get an alder body, USA pickups and a vintage spiral bridge. It seems to be a transitional model; a model with these exact specs popped up in the 1996 catalog, but the serial number puts it slightly earlier than that... also, the 'made in Japan' font used on this only pops up around 1995; so best guess is that this was made in '95 to sell new in '96. Anyway, it' got the deluxe touches that add up beautifully in the hands. Tone-wise, there's a heap of vintage-J growl and thump on deck; the aftermarket Duncan bridge pickup offers heaps of clarity and punch. The neck has been taken down to a satin finish and feels exceptionally smooth, it's a joy to move around on and a perfect gigging companion. The relic work done on this would have taken a whole lot of time and care. It's beautifully executed and nails both the look and feel of a 'very well played in' bass. There's a lot to love here, so if you've fallen hard, don't let it pass you by.

Model: Fender Jazz Bass, '62 reissue (JB62-75US)
Made: Japan, 1994-6, Fujigen plant (serial N089112)
Finish: 3-tone sunburst, 3-ply tort guard
Body: alder
Weight: 4.135kg
Neck: maple with rosewood board, 34" scale, 7.25" radius
Mods: relic finish applied, bridge pickup replaced
Pickups: Fender USA JB Vintage (neck), Seymour Duncan SJB1 (bridge) single coils
Case: basic non original gig bag

Cosmetic condition notes: relic finish wear. Headstock has some marks on the end and bottom edge. Neck is refinished in satin, minor dimples on the back only, no major marks. The back has been rubbed down to satin and has light scuffs, dimples and marks around the body. The sides have a number of small chips, scuffs and dings around the whole body; presumably a mix of natural and simulated wear. The front has some chips and dimples around the edge, a large sanded 'wear patch' on the shoulder and widespread minor marks, as well as being rubbed down to a semi gloss look. Overall: good condition (7/10).

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good. Frets have minor wear but no major buzz issues, 7/10 for fret life left. All electrics tested and working properly. Set up with fresh 45/105s.

This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
