Fender Japan '62 Reissue Jazz Bass, limited edition model from 97-00, trans teal, fretless. This is an unusual bass, but it really has a lot of appeal. It's a non-catalog model, hence the mixed bag of features: '62 neck profile and decals, maple board, pearl guard, trans finish, alder body... it's not a strict 'vintage correct' reissue. Fender offered these basses in this teal finish as well as a dark trans blue; there might be other colours floating around too. The maple board is original, but the frets have been removed. The work is exceptional, it's very tidy and feels very smooth under the fingers. It's wearing a set of flatwounds, so it's perfect for sliding around on; it's really fun to play. The tone is warm, round and balanced, but there's plenty of attack and cut available if you dig in hard with the fingers. If you're after a fretless J, this will certainly satisfy the thirst and keep you cool all summer long.
