Fender Jimi Hendrix Monterey Strat, made in Mex 2017. This is a replica of the guitar played, then famously set alight, at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. It's got an accurate reproduction of the custom artwork and fade finish; it's otherwise a pretty classic '62 style Strat. This one came from a favourite customer who always gives his guitars 'the treatment'; so it's got upgraded Gotoh locking staggered pole tuners, Callaghan bent steel saddles, a high mass steel block bridge, polished and dressed frets with rolled ends, and a re-wired with deluxe cloth wire and the tone knobs configured slightly differently. It's a monster in the hands: quick and light under the fingers, extremely responsive, loads of natural bass and attack... just too good. It's hard not to instantly gravitate to Jimi riffs, as it covers that tone so nicely, but hey, why fight the feeling, right? The Hendrix estate prefers to licence things for a short time and do limited numbers, so this is a pretty safe bet to increase steadily in value as the years pass. All hail Jimi: surely none ever wielded a Strat to better effect than he.
