Fender Telecaster Deluxe, natural gloss, made in USA 1978. I really love this guitar, it's outstanding. The Tele Deluxe launched in 1972 as part of a trio of T-style models showing off Seth Lover's new 'Wide Range' humbucking pickup. Using CuNiFe magnets, formvar wire and a wider housing, these pickups add a whole bunch of chime and clarity to the midrange girth and punchy output of a PAF-style offering. Paired with the ever-reliable ash and maple combo, this sounds stupendously good. It's balanced, bright and brilliant with a perfect punch through the mids and lows; it really is so convincing. The neck has seen plenty of play, but it feels great and plays smoothly from top to bottom. At 4.3kg, this counts as a lightweight example for this era... geez. The natural finish has faded and yellowed and seen a few scrapes and bumps, which adds to the vintage aesthetic. There's so much to love about this, it's such a perfect piece of 70s swagger.
