Fernandes JG-55, pewter grey, made in Taiwan 1997. These JG series guitars are awesome: take the classic American offset shapes and add some Japanese pragmatism in the form of a fast-playing neck, simple electronics and a hardtail bridge... it works a treat. This particular example has a handy HS style setup, so the neck single coil doles out a Strat-like punchy plonk with plenty of clarity and sparkle, while the bridge pickup offers a whole lot of bark and growl with a juicy natural low-end plenty of cream through the mids. The neck really is quick: it's a slim, round shape with a fairly flat board, taller frets and an easy-access body joint, so you can get around it with absolute ease. The grey finish with matching headstock has a certain steampunk elegance to it, it's not flashy but it lets the attractive curves do the talking. If you're after an uncomplicated offset that sounds and feels superb, this will surely have you smiling.
