Gibson LP Melody Maker, 2014 model, satin charcoal finish. Gibson have messed around with their MM models, and this (short-lived) 120th anniversary example has got to be one of the best ones they've done! Two P-90s, super thin matte nitro finish, light body... it's such a winner. It's very light and comfortable to play, the body contours and thinner profile will feel familiar to Fender players. Tone-wise, this delivers: big screaming mids, articulate highs, heaps of natural body and warmth... the P90s plus nitro finish combo really gives the sound a lively, responsive feel. The satin not-quite-black finish is showing some fairly noticeable wear, but that's part of the appeal of this type of finish, they wear in nice and quickly. This is a no-fuss rock machine with a whole lot of swagger.
Model: Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker
Made: USA, docs show DOB as 17 Dec 2013 (serial 140019091)
Finish: charcoal, matte nitrocellulose
Body: mahogany, total guitar weight approx 3.2kg
Neck: mahogany, rosewood board
Mods: none
Pickups: original Gibson P-90s
Case: original Gibson gig bag
Cosmetic condition notes: moderate finish wear. The nitro finish wears pretty quickly, so there's a bunch of surface-deep scratches around the body. There's also some rub-wear below the strings and on the top shoulder from contact; it's worn to a glossy finish in those spots. There's some wear around the edge of the horns where the corner of the wood is peaking through slightly, and on the back of the headstock you can see some joins more obviously than you might like, the wood must've swollen and contracted a little. Really nothing major at all. Overall: good condition (7/10).
Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have a little wear, nothing dramatic, 7/10. No headstock breaks. Playing with ease and attitude!
