Gibson LP Studio, Inverness green, made in USA 2016. Good golly, that's a cracking finish! Inverness green was a 60s era finish for Gibson, and occasionally, Gibson wise-up and offer such wonders again in the current age. This was part of a run made in 2016, a year that involved a 'back to basics' approach following the Robo-tuners/brass nuts disaster of 2015. Gibson were no doubt keen to wins fans back by with a crazy approach: making some lovely guitars in superb heritage finishes. It looks a bit like Fender's 'ocean turquoise metallic', but there's a bit more of the grain showing through, especially on the back and neck.... gorgeous. This particular example has spent the past couple of years in storage, so after a fret polish and a good clean up and setup, it's come up looking basically brand new. It's got the original case and all the candy too... a handy bonus. The neck is a moderate 'fat fifties' style profile: not a baseball bat, but not slim, so it's perfect for rhythm playing and generally just gets about it's business without drama. The 490 pickups clean up pretty nicely and crunch up very nicely, once I got the heights and poles dialled in right, I was impressed with the tone. You can split the coils too, which might save you bringing two guitars to a gig on the odd occasion. If you were eyeing off a new LP Studio, save yourself a casual few hundred bucks and grab this gorgeous green glory.
