Gibson SG Special, black, made in USA 1993. The SG Special has taken a few forms over the years, but in the 90s and 00s, it was a trimmed down take on the Standard: same body shape, pickguard, hardware and pickups, but with dot inlays and no binding on the board. Before 1994, on a black example at least, you get a very swish ebony board... lux! The neck is a slim taper shape, so not super skinny, but a little slimmer and quicker than the '61 Reissue models, and it feels smooth and satisfying in the hands. At risk of stating the obvious: a previous owner blessed this one with a B5 Bigsby, which is super fun. The tailpiece adds a little bit extra breath and brightness into the tone, so you get a slightly snappier attack and a more prominent treble than on a stock model, which suits me just fine. There's still plenty of low end oomph and creamy fat midrange on offer via the 490 pickups, so you can still chugg and squeal away as much as you please, but having a bit of extra nuance on tap is a big blessing. It also means the guitar balances very nicely, with the extra few grams helping to keep it sitting straight when standing with a strap.  The iconic 90s era brown and pink hardcase is included. SG= suave goth.
